En attendant Godot, a masterpiece by Samuel Beckett, contains not only negative labels like “absurdity”, "pain" or" emptiness and despair, " but also many positive elements such as the author’s thinking of survive, the call for the human to bravely face the despair and so on. At last, these positive spirit and negative external images together compose a contradiction. This article will analyze the contradictory combination of despair and hope in En attendant Godot.
